Old Jansamei is a galactic state in the Quiet Era. Its territory is mostly located in the Jansamei region.

After the Upload, the old galactic government of the Core Governance was dissolved, leaving each system government to operate independently. While most were content to do so in the peace of the new Quiet Era, some saw a need to create some sort of replacement higher government. In particular, many systems in the densely populated Jansamei region, which had been an industrial and social heartland of the Core Governance, agreed to codify a continuance of the Governance's administrative methods.

The result was essentially a deliberate permanent caretaker government. The state of Old Jansamei is not empowered to shape the future of the region; it is designed to keep it exactly the same.

As a “maintenance state”, there are almost no politics to speak of. The government simply exists to continue existing the same way it always has.

Diplomatic relations with neighbouring states are largely positive, but uneventful. Old Jansamei does not seek to expand, and has no objection to anyone passing through as long as they don't try to mess with the status quo within. Previously, there had been some border disputes as other, more active states attempted to bring Old Jansamei systems under their influence, but these are rare now.
