The Federation of Waldone is a galactic state in the Quiet Era. Its territory is primarily located in the Carina region.

After the Upload, the former galactic government of the Core Governance was dissolved, leaving each system government to operate independently. Over time, these independent systems began to form new alliances and interstellar governments, partly for standardisation and trade reasons, but also out of an innate societal desire to build something bigger. The Federation of Waldone is the result of one such alliance.

A group of neighbouring small states and outgoing independent systems agreed that it would be sensible to have a regional forum for resolving disputes and dealing with the other emerging galactic states. However, despite agreeing on the general principle, it took several attempts over several centuries to agree on the specific terms. The final treaty was eventually signed in a relatively central location, chosen partly for not being important to any of the signatories. This location was the Waldone system, and the new federation was named accordingly.

Although generally positive relations are guaranteed by Federation membership, the member states are not particularly cohesive and often quarrel. The Federation Assembly has rarely had less than 50 ongoing arguments at any given time. Fortunately, these frictions reside almost entirely in the realm of pure politics, rather than making any meaningful difference to the citizens of the Federation, who live in peaceful harmony.

The Federation has cordial relations with the adjacent galactic states, but remains distrustful of the Caydlaw, which they regard as overbearingly centralised.
