Formula Galaxy is a top-level motor racing series popular in the League Era, War Era, and Post-War Era.

In this series, almost all design features are permitted. There are certain (fairly loose) requirements for minimum and maximum size, and the vehicle must have a driver inside it; otherwise, the only restriction is that the car must be propelled by mechanical traction of the wheels - other kinds of propulsion, such as reaction thrusters or jet turbines, are not permitted. As a result, FG cars are among the fastest wheeled vehicles ever produced, leveraging cutting-edge motors, active aerodynamics, and flight control systems.

The series is held across a variety of planets, with the lineup changing dramatically over the centuries. Traditionally, the season has started and ended on Earth, and has always included a race at the First Interplanetary Circuit on Mars. There are certain criteria for a suitable location - the gravity must be between 0.5 and 1.5G, and the atmosphere must be both breathable and thick enough to be aerodynamically useful.

There are between 10 and 15 races in a season.

Over time, many teams have come and gone from Formula Galaxy. Notable entries include Eridani Race Team, Anaplian Race Dynamics, and Lysander Sportdrive.

To help sustain a pipeline of qualified teams and drivers, since the 3700s, the series has operated the Galaxy Encore programme. Under this project, the previous year's cars, with their power moderately reduced, are given to junior teams to operate for the course of a season. This allows up-and-coming drivers, engineers, and ground crews to familiarise themselves with FG racing, as well as allowing FG-style races to be run in more locations without overcrowding the main series calendar.
